Some of you may be interested in an article in the 1996 December PSA
Journal. The title is "A Blue Bosom Boy in the Footsteps of Daguerre" by
Stan White, APSA.

He notes that "Blue Bosom Boy" was a term used by Daguerrotypists to
indicate the maker did poor work; in D'types that were incorrectly made, the
full white blouses common during the period would show a shade of blue. (You
learn something every day!)

The article provides the complete modern day method of making D'types
without using mercury. Very instructive. Possibly even worth joining PSA to
get the publication! (It's the only way you can get the Journal. Sorry.)

Lots of other stuff in the issue as well, including a number of discussions
on digital vs conventional photography.
