Hi Again with suggestion for Daylight Developing Dish,
I have just completed my latest aid to processing
panchromatic sheet materials without working in total darkness.
A cat litter dish (14' X 10"X 2" ) is drilled with a 1"
dia hole cutter at edge near one corner. A plastic TANK CONNECTOR( from
plumber supplies) used for overflow pipes, is modified to connect 1/2 metre
of rubber AUTO RADIATOR HOSE (3/4" inside dia.) to dish whilst a plastic
funnel is inserted at other end. The pipe is held up by length of wire coat
hanger to maintain curved light trap. Working in total darkness, place film (
held flat by four pieces of plastic REPORT BINDER strips clipped aound edge )
in dish and place the whole dish in light tight plastic bag (the kind your
bromide paper comes in) . The plastic bag can be rolled up and secured with
rubber band around the base of hose. Solutions can be poured in and out of
dish keeping the light tight curve on the hose. A thin polythene LADIES
SHOWER CAP can be secured over the whole tray( inside plastic bag) to prevent
undue splashing whilst carrying out the procedure, if required. The hose
connection to the dish should be strengthened with a screw tightening
Jubillee clip around the joint and a sealant used on all joints while
assembling to make completely water tight. Gentle rocking of
the dish throughout processing ensures even development, as usual, and the
BINDER STRIPS keep the sheet material from getting stuck to the bottom of the
flat dish. I have found that approx 500 ml. of solution is needed to cover a
10" X 8" sheet.
The equivalent "proper" equipment to provide this daylight
working facility will cost several tens of pounds or dollars . I hope it will
prove useful to some who are able to a access a pet shop and plumbing
suppliers as it proves a useful accessory to the use of 10" X 8" materials
used with the c/b ULT Camera mentioned earlier. If anyone should cary this
idea thru to manufacturing and marketing please keep me in mind for 10
percent. Good Luck with results. John
