Bromoil - masking

Apologies if this is an "everyone who has read the books knows that"
kind of question ... I haven't read them - yet.
I asked about the possibility of producing a part-silver,
part-bromoil image by selectively applying the bromoil bleach, and
Terry King kindly replied:

> print and allowing it to dry and then masking out the areas to be silver
> before fixing and then remove the rubber solution and expose the whole thing

Just what would be a suitable "rubber solution" (or any other) for this?
