Gosh, I didn't realize how the above sounded when I wrote it. Again, my
apology as English is not my first language. When I read it after it was
quoted, I realized that in English (at least American English) it sounded like
"I think some people are not making sense. Why do you want to imitate a
process? Why don't you do other color pigment process...." It has that
connotation or tone, I guess; but that is NOT what I meant. I literally meant
that I DID NOT understand and I was looking for answers if others happen to
know.

If you remember, I have asked the same question about half a year ago. I am
relatively new (in fact very new) in alt. processes, so I thought everybody in
the alt. proc. world knows how to do 3-color or 4-color gum because Luis,
Scopic, Crawford, Anchell, Davis all talk about it. So my original question
was is it because the multi layering as suggested by Phil Davis too tedious
and so people are trying to find an automatic method? Or is it the special
look of Fresson. The answer that I received was the look, especially the
beautiful black. I haven't seen a real Fresson, but I have seen gum and have
done watercolor painting, so I had to imagine in the pigment relief on
watercolor or fine art paper. But if my imagination is right, then it seems
like other pigment process can give the effect too, so my question became "is
there anything else in the look of Fresson or is it the method of 4-color
printing that we are after?"

My previous post was just my personal view from technical point of view. It it
had sounded offensive to anybody, I apologize, especially to Art if you also
felt that it sounded that way.

I would like to comment a few more things, but I think a few days ago AOL mail
system was down again. So now I am getting messages in a random order, so I
don't know what has been said (I received message with quotes but the original
msg hasn't arrived). I will wait a few more days and then comment to things
especially those related to what I have said. After that I should probably
shut up (until I went to LA or NY to see some Fresson prints). :)

Peace to all,
Dave
