>I'd like to know what Sil has to say about the 2300 vs the 2010.
No comparison. The MD-2300 can print using the pigment inks, but also has a
true photographic mode (actually dye-sub) that makes prints that are
patternless and are about as close to a chemically developed print as I've
seen. Unfortunately, the photographic mode inks are just that (not
pigments) and I haven't done any exhaustive testing for permanency.
The latest model, the ALPS MD-1000, is much cheaper (in construction as
well as price), but has a feature the 2300 doesn't have: it can lay down a
layer of white pigment on colored media so colors aren't affected by the
background. All the ALPS MD printers have the capability of printing in
four metallic colors.
But it's the pigment inks that differentiate these printers. And for
negatives, the double black on transparency material provides true
highlight blacks.
FYI, I am presently testing the H-P Photo Printer which hasn't been getting
much attention. More on that if anyone asks!
