There is a method of depositing metallic gold on to a print, that was
discovered by my friend Dennis Fielding here in the U.K.
It is quite time consuming so begin by making small prints
For Blue, brown and metallic gold tones.....
Make a lith print on Kentmere Art Classic to a normal density, and after
the final wash, air dry the surface and mask off the borders. For areas yo
uwant brown, dot the areas of the print using a No 1 Chinese Calligraphy
brush with Agfa's Viradon (Sulphide toner) diluted between 1:50 - 1:300
depending on the shade of brown you desire. For areas you want blue repeat
the last stage, leave the toner to work for 10 minutes then go over the
area with Tetenal Gold Toner leaving the toner to work for four minutes,
then wash briefly unde rrunning water for a minute or so.Hang or blot until
surface dry then dotthe areas you want blue with a ferri/bromide bleach
diluted 1:4.As soon as the desired shade of blue is reached wash in running
water for five minutes and surface dry once again.
For areas you wish to be Gold, dot with undiluted Gold Toner and leave to
work for 1 minute, then go over these areas with an iodine bleach. You will
then see metallic gold deposited on the print....the carrier seems to
evaporate leaving the metallic gold behind! Dennis has told me that he has
so far failed to get the same result with othe rpapers other than
Kentmere's Art Classic.
