Back in 90 while I was finishing my degree work in Detroit, my
printmaking professor (Dennis Galffy) was sent a chain art letter from
Russia.
Being far too busy at the time he passed it on to me. At that time I
was working on an edition of 100 small photo etchings.
The letter was one of those lists where you send a piece of art to the
person on the top of the list, retype the list over adding your name to
the bottom and send out ten more letters to anyone you please.
To speed up results I sent a print to each of the ten on the list
(Russia (3), Chezk, Yugo, Japan (2), Brazil, New Zealand). About four
months later I received three of the most amazing prints, done in a
completely different manner then I had ever seen (one small print was of
a single plate but hand rubbed in such an exacting way that it seemed to
be of three or more colors). These pieces are among the most celebrated
things ever given to me or collected by myself.
Wd this be of any interest to the members of the alt photo list?
There's absolutely nothing like receiving art in the mail, especially
from someone you have been in written/oral contact with without having
any visual orientation.
It doesn't have to be limited to alt photo either, I also received a
nice recording of a recital.
If interested, respond off-list.
Have a good weekend,
Cody
