I don't see why. I tried to start a discussion on this a year or two ago.
Only got one private reply back as I recall. I would think that this
would be an interesting topic since it would be more forward looking
than retrospective.
I recently ran across a few links on the web that might prove interesting.

Also, I recently remember reading a technical report about a group working
on a holographic printer. I'm not too certain where I saw that. Could
have been in EETimes magazine. The idea as I remember was to allow for
the printing of computer generated holograms.
