Since the middle of February we have been working on the Paris Apis 2000
project. We have contacted cultural institutions and met with the
organizing commitee of Photography 2000. We have preferred staying quiet
about our project until the first elements of our plans were in place, not
to mention the formal support from an organization like the SFP. We planned
an early announcement but Karl-Heinz Klang' e-mail message to the list beat
us to it.
His letter of March 25, 1998 announces a first meeting on April 18. I am
surprised to learn by your e-mail of april 8 that your project is already
so far ahead, but so much the better.
You have declared your candidacy first; your project seems far more
advanced than what we were led to believe from Karl-Heinz's e-mail.
Organisation of an event of this magnitude requires a lot of time and
energy. It would be stupid that two groups compete for the same turf.
You first mentioned your project on this list but we both have been working
on this for some time. We are all gentlemen. Take it for the year 2000; we
would like to take it for 2001 even though we would not have the supporting
benefit of the "Mois de la Photo a Paris" (Month of Photography in Paris)
or of the "Mois Off de Paris".
I propose that for the future, in order to save everybody's time, the
calendar of events should be established well ahead of time, perhaps by a
committee on the list.
In our project for Paris 2000 we planned on giving a lot of importance to
major alt-photo exhibitions. We seem to have generated a lot of interest
and support from many individuals and organizations. How are your own plans
shaping up?
