Gabe, you can't beat using film. Several methods have been mentioned, none
of them compare. We have experimented with the digital route, but for our
use, they ultimately prove unsuitable. I do photochemical milling, where
sharpness and image accuracy is not an option. So far, the only process
that will work is the one that has worked for decades.

My suggestion is to use digital to learn whatever alt process you want.
When you get the process down, make a high quality film negative and use
that.
