The dynamics of the list are amazing . . . I started this thread based on
a new list member asking me about the outcome of a note I sent last year
inquiring about alternatives to dichromate.

There are commercially available diazo compounds out there that are light
sensitive. We just need to find the one (manufacturer and product name)
that has been successfully used by Ultrastable and/or Dunstan and/or
whomever. Asking this question is not wrong or illegal. As a matter of
fact the diazo supplier probably would like to sell more of what they
make. I seriously doubt that either Ultrastable or Dunstan are
synthesizing their own diazo compounds . . . they probably worked with the
tech support people of various chemical companies and tested their
recommended diazo compounds. If a patent (on the diazo compound) exists
it is probably held by the chemical manufacturer and not Ultrastable or
Dunstan though I am certain they would consider the information
proprietary. Even if a diazo patent is held, it may not restrict its use
in another process such as gum printing . . . it would depend upon the
claims of the patent.

NOW BACK TO PHOTOGRAPHY . . . does anyone know a carbon printer in the
London area who might be using diazos who attended APIS 97 (this excludes
Ultrastable and Dunstan) ?

Sincerely, Art
