The lab has finished another round of testing that is informative but not
yet as definitive as ultimately planned. Some added testing is in
progress based upon suggestions from a chemist.

I do not intend to publish the results until I feel that the lab results
have been interpreted enough to provide probable formula. Some of the
results are easily understood but as with most testing some new questions
have been raised. Based upon the results to date, I have concluded that
this work will uncover more fundamental information about the
Artigue/Fresson process than has ever been available to our photographic
community.

Now a challenge to our list members . . .

The coatings contain an unusual (as in not occurring in nature) component
of "Ketene Imine" or Ketenimine. This maybe a necessary trace ingredient
or an unknown (to the Fresson family) contaminate? An internet search as
well as a trip to a chemistry library have not been very productive.

List members out there in academe, could you run this past some of your
colleges in the chemistry departments of your universities? What are
likely sources of a Ketenimine from either an artist's or photographer's
chemical repertoire. A key thing to remember is that the Fresson paper
from which the coating was taken was reported to have been made in the
early 50's (the unprocessed paper was provided by Bill Foster, a very
credible individual).

Assistance will be appreciated.

Sincerely, Art
