I take this recipe from the book "Gunsmithing" by Roy Dunlap (sometimes
it pays to have a hobby)

To Blacken Brass (pg402)

Potassium Sulfide- 1 oz
Ammonium Hydrosulphide- 2 1/4 oz
Water- 1 gal

"Dip polished, cleaned parts until deep black in color, wash and dry."
