Janet,

Since no one else jumped at the chance of answering your question, here is
mine:

Shoot slide film if you want to do enlarged negatives in the darkroom, for
color separation or monochrome. It has the additional advantage that you
can see what the images will look like. Disadvantage is that it may cost
more overall and that exact exposure is important.

If you will be producing digital negatives for alternative processes, then
go ahead and shoot color negatives and don't even bother having prints
made. The cost will be minimal since scans can be made from negatives
directly.
