Rollo pyro-sodium metaborate/ plus pyro and roller transport

I've just started tray developing my verichrome pan cirkut negs in rollo
pyro, and was wondering what the sodium metaborate actually does (I have
read that it's purpose is to make the staining even- but why does it do
this).Rollo pyro and Verichrome pan seems to work well.I used the same
starting times as tri-x, and am getting good results at 7.5 minutes and &
70 degrees. What is the difference between rollo pyro and pmk
pyro? Due to the large surface area I'm developing, I'm finding it a bit
expensive and am wondering about mixing my own?
Also this might be a stupid question, but would it be feasible to use pyro
in a roller transport like a durst printo. The big negs a hard to handle,
and it would be hard to develop negs longer than 75" (my biggest tray).
I'm also looking forward to the book on pyro- when will it be available?
Thanks Jamie young
