Gift Idea w/ Alt. Photo / Photoceramic???

Hi,

I am looking for a gift idea where I can put a photograph of something using
alt. photo. process. Since the receipient of the gift is not a photographer, I
prefer the gift to be something usable rather than just photographic.

Right now I am thinking about putting a photograph on a mug (but not with
those dye-sub transfer type). Is photoceramic something very difficult
(assuming I can make reasonable gum print)? How does it work in principle (I
have read a little in the past but can't remembre any detail)? Do you mix the
glaze with dichromate and process as in gum and then fire it? Or do you make a
negative version of gum, process, and then paint the glaze on and fire it?

I don't do ceramic myself. I am thinking of buying a mug from the ceramic
craft store, put the image on, and then bring it back for firing.

Any input on simple photoceramic (not intending to do anything complicated) or
other gift idea utilizing alt. photo would be greatly appreciated.

Dave
