Gum over Wood

Is it possible to make a gum print over wood material? I prefer to preserve at
least part of the wooden look and use one area for the gum print instead of
say, painting the whole thing with white paint.
If someone has done it before, could you give a brief description of the
preparation needed? Thanks a lot in advance!
