<underline>Beginning Platinum/Palladium Priting</underline>

March 20-21, 9-5pm, $225 (all materials included)

April 24-25, 9-5pm, $225 (all materials included)

June 26-27, 9-5pm, $225 (all materials included)

August 21-22, 9-5pm, $225 (all materials included)

November 20-21, 9-5pm, $225 (all materials included)

This intensive hands-on workshop will teach students how to print with
these two non-silver processes. It will also include presentations on
how to make both original and enlarged negatives of the correct density
and contrast range for platinum and palladium. Since this is a contact
printing process, students should bring at least medium format
negatives or, ideally, 4" x 5" negatives. Negatives will be available
from the instructor for printing. Beginning students are welcome;
while darkroom experience is helpful, it is by no means necessary. All
printing materials are included in the tuition.

<underline>Advanced Platinum/Palladium Printing</underline>

April 10-11, 9-5pm, $225 (includes all materials)

July 17-18, 9-5pm, $225 (includes all materials)

September 18-19, 9-5pm, $225 (all materials included)

December 18-19, 9-5pm, $225 (all materials included)

This workshop is for students who have already taken a Beginning Pt/Pd
workshop from William Laven, either privately or through a workshop
program. A quick review of printing procedures will be offered as
necessary. Students will also have available several papers and
developers to explore the varied characteristics of different
paper/developer combinations. Additionally, there will be a
demonstration and darkroom time available to make enlarged negatives
for printing. Most of the workshop time is for printing and making
enlarged negatives. All printing and enlarged negative materials are
included in the tuition.

Zone System Tutorials</underline>

Dates to be arranged, $125 (all materials included)

These one-on-one tutorials introduce students to the theory and use of
the Zone System as developed in the 1940's by Ansel Adams. The Zone
System is one of the most successful approaches to the exposure and
development of black and white materials, but is frequently
misinterpreted and misunderstood. Instruction includes metering
procedures, exposure judgment, film calibration and development testing
procedures. Tutorials consist of an initial session of three hours
with a one hour follow-up meeting. Contact William Laven Photography
for details and appointments.

                                      ***

Each workshop will be limited in attendance to 6 students to insure
individualized teaching. Since the classes are always small, signing up
early is helpful. See my web page for complete workshop descriptions or
contact me via email, snailmail or fax. See my images and article in
the 1998 summer issue of View Camera magazine.
