Adam,
Try coating your Platine at much higher humidity level. You may see a
gratifying increase in dmax without any increase in metal content. Also,
a single drop of1% potassium chlorate solution should give a significant
boost to the contrast of a 4x5 print. You can also try a single drop of
fresh drug store peroxide diluted 1:1. Neither should decrease your
dmax. Just remember too that dmax is very over-rated: what counts is how
rich and convincing the darkest tones of your image are, not how black
the border looks.---Car
