Yes, that's my understanding too. It seems that glycin is one of those
chemicals like, is it ferric chloride? (the platinum sensitizer), or
ferric ammonium citrate, that can be made in different ways with different
results... but glycin has gotten EXTREMELY expensive.

For what it's worth, about 2 years ago I mixed a developer with 10-year
old glycin that had gone brown with age. The formula, a "soft-working
developer," worked wonderfully for continuous tone enlarged negatives on
lith film. (And the minute I find it again, I'm going to publish it.)
