Michael,
Charis Wilson is quoted in several places that while she was driving
Edward Weston's car (he didn't drive) he would often "rest his eyes" for
a while and if she saw subject matter that looked like it would interest
him, she'd wake him up to have a look. Not quite the same meaning as the
way your professor told the story. But then Charis and Edward had been a
team for many years. She also ghost wrote some of Weston's published
articles as well as being the model for many of his most famous nude
studies.
