hello
as many knows pyrogallol as a tanning effect and color gelatin if well
used.
but other develloper can do it too if well used.
the only problem is tha amount of sulfite in the solution. Most of the
developer we use are made to avoid this second images coloration. But It
can lower the developing time.
the advantage of the pyrogallol is the color of the stain which make it
possible to print both on alternative and in gelatin silver. But other
product give abother color of stain and could be usable too.
here is a board giving the coloration ,intesity and the amount of sulfite
which avoid this stain.
developer stain color intensity sulfite amount
(g/l)
pyrogallol yellow-orange 10 11
Pyrocatechol black 10 6
Hydroquinnone yellow-brown 10 2
chlorohydroqui " " 10 2
Diaménophenol brown-red 8 2
Paraminophenol brown black 3 2
genol brown black 2 1
glycin none 0 -
as you can see a well made hydroquinnone or chlorohydroquinnone ,or
diamenophenol could made a good stainning developper.
ok it don't have the energic tanning effect of pyro.
but it's could be an alternative.
