Hi Matthew --

Sorry I can't offer a solution to your puzzle. I'm hoping that you may be able to help me out a bit, however. From your post , it sounds like you have an Aristo VCL 4500 head. I'm looking into replacing my old pre-VC standard Aristo head with one that is more friendly to VC papers and would like feedback from users of that head as well as the basic V54 lamp. I can't justify the cost of the several more expensive units ($2000+), but I think the VCL may be worthwhile.

I'd like to hear from anyone who has used these units. Perhaps this should go off-list, however, since it's getting out of the realm of alt-processes. I only mean responses to this post, not Matthew's original question.

Thanks,
Keith Schreiber

I'm having a curious bit of difficulty and I'm hoping someone can suggest a solution--or at least give an explanation. I'm trying to enlarge a 4x5 negative to 8x10, going from negative to interpositive to enlarged negative. For some reason the light tubes in the variable contrast head are projecting very pronounced stripes on the lith negative. (I'm using full green for exposure.) I'm puzzled by this. There's a diffusion plate on the Aristo head, and I've never noticed this when making prints. The negative I'm trying to enlarge is fairly thin and also developed in D-23 rather than pyro, so perhaps this is significant? Any insights into what's going on would be much appreciated.
