The process of making a print is half of the artist process as far as I am
concerned, the other half being taking the photograph. In an area such as
alternative processes, where the finished product is more labor intensive
than some more conventional printing methods, there is a great deal of the
art in this final product. Each piece created in the darkroom is a unique
entity. I agree with Dick that the printer should somehow be credited. I
also agree that no one else knows the exact interpretation of an image like
the person who first conceived the shot and executed the photograph.
Printing my images is a process that is very valued by me, so valued that I
would not let anyone else print my work. I fell that if someone else made
the print then it is no longer my piece of artwork. Art lives in the
artist's hands.
