was missing you folks--been busy--but thought i'd mention a movie about photography you can rent now--i was reminded of it earlier today--its not exactly first run--but multiple copies are at my local blockbuster video store--i might be the last one on earth to find out about it--but thought, in case you haven't also, that i'd mention that you might want to see the movie "Pecker" by john waters this weekend-- its R-rated--and in this case -- you will have no doubts that it deserves at least that--so you might not want it in the house if you have young ones or won't want to watch it if your not into "different" movies--john waters is sort of an advanced ed wood mental state i'd guess. it isn't exactly alt photo--it is about a young fella named Pecker in Baltimore who starts photographing--puts up an impromptu art exhibit --silver gelatins -- in his place of employment--sort of one of those neighbor hood "delis" in not the best neighborhood--anyway--he becomes an overnight sensation in the New York art scene. and....

john waters/his films are sort of strange--the older ones were better i think--(check local college libraries--people study these in film/culture studies) when he had no money and all the actors were his friends and neighbors from the bourough--in other words the acting was so bad it was good! john waters tends to see everybody/world--rich and poor as rather psychotic and obsessive?? so this what we might call a borderline entertainment/art film.

this particular one makes some observations of "fine art photography" and the "usual" water's take on the lives of not so normal normal people--

i've been compared a couple of times to john water's characters this past year or so--for one of my photogravures (gheez its a self portrait--i guess i should have said so huh?) and for the developing cast of art personas i have begun to discuss and perform--in this particular film (Pecker) Cindy Shermann makes a cameo--she looks a little like one of me in fact--a more level headed art intellectual critic pesona ---M. Imagine Mei.... gonna have to talk intellectual property with Cindy some day soon.....

anyway...seemed the list was getting a little quiet and thought maybe some of you folks could use a little excitement???? have a great weekend-jewelia
