As Judy said, "vellum" today is used as a description. If memory serves,
the word actually means a writing surface made from calfskin, just as
parchment means the same made from sheepskin. Modern paper manufacturers
use the terms to describe papers that are somehow remeniscent of those
historical materials. Most "vellums" I've seen resemble smooth, heavy
tracing paper. You'd have to test for suitability on a product by
