I must say I'm impressed by the outpouring of creativity in finding useful
and suitably cheap sources of chemistry for darkroom work. Surely someone
has tried WD-40 for ... something.

While I haven't been following this thread, I offer the following
addition to the list of wonder chemicals. Mother's mag and Aluminum Wheel
cleaner, available from most automotive stores. Cleans all metals
(including trays) without excessive rubbing, and it's cheap.
