Gong! Joseph Max Petzval used the system of zones of light and color to
create a lens that was both all stigmatic, anastigmatic and all chroma,
apochromatic. Petzval was, then, known in 1860 or so as the father of the
photographic lens.

It wasAnsel who used Petzval's zone system to equate that to the making of
the negative and the print. Ansel Adams was most interested in that
application to the computer's use for these values in his and Petzval's
system when he died.
