darkrooms & water

Coming to you from one of the most polluted zip codes in the US - 80301 in
lovely Boulder CO (can you say THANK YOU Syntex Chemical Plant!!) I called
when I was setting up darkroom operations first to ask about the septic
system, then, since I would be moving to city water, what their
requirements were.

The person I spoke with seemed quite knowledgeble about what the effects
were. She clearly indicated that at the level of processing I was doing -
probably about 15 to 20 hours a month of darkroom time - the chemicals
could easily be handled by both the city water system and/or the septic
tank.

It is apparently the volume of water that's a bigger deal. She recommended
for the time I'd be using a septic system I'd probably want to avoid FB
paper because of the length of time/volume of water needed to wash. It's
an old septic tank in need of an overhaul anyway and using that much water
could likely cause me problems!

Just my 2 cents.
Kathryn
