Did I mention that they only formed, or at least became visible, in the
wash? And I swear some seemed to appear after the wash! Also, they are not
restricted to the image area or even to the coated area, being just as
likely to appear in the outer margins as in the image. These spots can not
be etched out without leaving a hole through the paper as they go all the
way through and are diffuse rather than solid.

So after wasting much too much materials I gave up on the Lenox and switched
to Simili Japon. No more spots!!! This isn't really proof that the problem
was in the paper, it may be just luck, but it does seem like pretty strong
evidence. Simili rules!

BTW, an interesting bit of trivia I recently learned - the Lenox from Daniel
Smith is made by Byron Weston which is part of Crane's.
