DEAR LIST,
I agree that it is best not to tweek the lion's nose! I used to ask for
hand inspection and found that I did not like trying to give a crash course
in sensitometry to bureaucrats and armed airport security officials.
On my last trip I put 60 rolls of T-max 400, yep, 400, through the
X-ray machines four times...Barbados, London, Florence, London.
ZERO FOG, ZERO ILL EFFECTS. I am aware that there are no dosage standards
for security X-ray machines...the biggest problem... but, since the
technology of the imaging sensors has vastly progressed, most of the X-ray
sources are MUCH weaker than they used to be. If your 100 film is B&W I
honestly feel that it is upsetting but much better to leave it in your carry
on and send it through the machine. I cannot speak to color film.
*****PLEASE NOTE: the machines used to X-ray the checked luggage are MUCH
HIGHER POWER than those used for carry on! Think about that.
    Good luck...
                                                            CHEERS!
