My experience mirrors Bob's, but only I assumed it was due to student
error. I've worn our a couple of lids, but had enough on hand from
garage sales and various "end of semester orphans" that I never bought a
new replacement. A student of mine bought a new replacement this
semester and she had identical problems. As a test, I gave her one of my
old tanks (with an old lid) and it worked fine, but I concluded she had
stayed in the loading room too long or dropped her film onto the floor
near a tiny light leak. She purchased an entire new tank and all was
forgotten.
This is not an auto response, I'm glad to see your message.
I'd now bet she had a defective lid. Thanks for the tip, I'll be more
careful in my judgment.
