DEAR KATHERINE,
Last week I posted directions to someone who wanted to use bees wax on
how to make an archival wax with Microcrystaline wax and benzene or to
purchase the Renaissance wax from Talas. Jose Orracca, photo archivist from
Greenwich CT., gave me the formula that I posted which, he states, is the
equivalent of Renaissance wax. He stated that they both are archival for
black and white silver gelatin prints, as this was all that I was concerned
with at the time.
During his career, Jose has done preservation work for museums, galleries,
insurance companies and private collections. A number of sources certify
that he knows his stuff. The last contact info I have on him (as of 1996)
is PH# 860 927 0178 and FAX # 860 927 3978.
That is the best that I can do at present. I understand that there is a
center for photographic permanence (don't recall the exact name) at R.I.T.
that might be accessed through its website. They might give more up to date
info.
                                                    CHEERS!
