Re: Cone PiezographyBW
Nick;
As far as your black ink cartridge not printing, open up the door that
covers the cartridge and see if the little foam pad is in the square that is
closest to the top edge of the holder (when it is open). If it is, take it
off completely. You can place it in the depression below or not use it at
all. This should get your black ink flowing again. I too am checking more
into the MIS system. I have not had success yet with the Piezo BW inks and
drivers on my 1160. I am getting the often mentioned horizontal
microbanding. This banding disappears when I use John Woolf's workflow and
curve on the MIS site and use the Epson driver that goes with the printer.
If Cone cannot satisfy my need to get rid of the microbanding, then I will
be switching over immediately to the MIS system. Their quadtone system
offers far more flexibility than Cone's with a neutral ink set, a variable
warm/cold tone ink set, and even the ability to make up your own toned
cartridge for unique colors in quad printing, sort of like duotones. The
MIS inks are also a cheaper way to go. I like the idea of Cone's driver,
paper profiles, and the 2160 dpi, but if the results have banding just like
a cheap printer, then what is the point of spending about $350 on a kit?
Let me know how you make out. We should be able to help each other through
our mutual experiences.
