(Actually, two notes)
1. Please note that the Pyrocat formula given on the Unblinking Eye is
slightly different than the one originally published in Post-Factory. The
formula in Post-Factory called for a Stock B solution of 10% sodium
carbonate, with a working dilution of 1:10:100 (for silver printing). The
one in the Unblinking Eye uses a Stock B solution of 100% potassium
carbonate, and a working dilution of 1:1:100. Interchanged in this way the
two carbonates give exactly the same results with this formula so do not
hesitate to use either one.
2. Phenidone is notoriously difficult to get into solution. There are two
ways to do this, 1) either dissolve it first in a small amount of very hot
water, or 2) dissolve it in a little bit of alcohol. As far as I can tell
the alcohol has no negative impact on development.
Good luck to those who try Pyrocat. It has no more magic than PMK or ABC+
but offers similar developing characteristics, particular in its staining
and high acutance, to these developers, with some advantanges.
BTW, am going to be away from email for the next few days, beginning at
noon today.
