First off, I have read the Post Factory articles on making Gold Chloride. Also the big blow-up here a while ago. I'm not making it myself. My friend is a Ph. D in Chemistry and she teaches chemistry at the University. I assume she is more than qualified to make a small batch for our personal use.

So my question is, what is the effect of using scrap gold? 18K, 14K. An old chain or ring etc?

Once made is there an easy way to determine the solution percentage (being that it is not 24k to begin with).
