I think I should add, this being such an international crew, that the
names I named were all American because at that time the US was busy (as
the French later claimed) "stealing the idea of modern art" or whatever
the exact phrase, from Paris. Which is to say, there were few contemporary
Europeans whose names and work we knew.

Since then there have been a LOT of Europeans over here getting acclaim,
including Gerhardt Richter, whose name was, if I recall correctly,
mentioned recently on this very list -- and another favorite of mine,
Sigmar Polk. He, BTW, did some smashing "crooked" photographs (was that
the early 80s?). Sorry to say, I've only seen them in books -- the big
Polk show some years ago was all paintings.

He solarized & brush developed and used almost Mortensen texture
screens, except cool, not tacky.
