Actually, here in NY it's hard to find in the grocery store anymore. It's
quite dangerous if mixed with water in a closed container at the wrong
ratios. It heats up tremendously, and I have had it blow apart a glass
gallon container. Luckily, it was a used nitric acid bottle that was encased
in clear plastic. So, be careful when mixing lye. Use the right amount and
keep it stirring with the container open.
