This thread sent me back to Kosar (for better or worse). He has TWO, very
large, indeed exhausting, chapters on diazo (which are dyes) with a total
of some 750 or so citations, or maybe it was more, that is, allowing for
duplication, let's say 500 different researchers were working with diazo
in the 1950s or thereabouts.
Mostly it was used in the printing industry, to make light sensitive
plates. Whether it could be used as a substitute for dichromate, I do not
opine on... but I would say that whosoever imagines they will arrange that
should read the record & patents first & remember that in those days folks
had more brain cells -- not so many knocked out by TV & food additives.
