I do a lot of Pt/Pd printing, both DOP and POP and can tell you that
both have printout and the self-masking effect. But as Carl (also one
who has done a lot of Pt/Pd printing) has indicated, there are various
degrees of printout and self-masking. Although this printout, in
general, is greater and almost complete with POP, it is variable and
occurs in DOP as well, and much more variable. The amount of printout
and/or self-masking can be influenced by many variations of paper,
chemistry, humidity, and some other things.

Although variable, the printout can be controlled and made consistent
with good technique and careful procedures. The printout and/or self
masking related to it is neither "good" nor "bad" but rather may
contribute advantages or limitations just as any other aspect of the
process.
