But they are contact prints. Only the negative is produced by more than

And, for myself, building a negative does just that - getting the
perception to the print. I do not have the desire to re-create the
image, but there are times when it advantageous to circumvent the
inadequacies of the traditional camera to negative to print convention.
I am sure that digital can be useful in the same way once enough
information is available to avoid posterization. Sometimes I get a good
print from the in-camera negative, sometimes I don't and don't want to
give up, and then sometimes I just through it away and go photograph
something else.
