When I used the GeniusFilm, I acheived OK results using Rodinal (1:10 I
believe)--but the price has since been a turn-off.
The dense negs worked well as negs from Scala transparency positives. Some
nagging voice tells me I could have achieved technical superiority
elsewhere, but that's for me and some KPG CGP to decide....

Yes I tried The MACO Geniusfilm ! It was about one year ago.
After numerous tests, I constantly had strong stripes. I tried everything to
avoid it but the film itself had a problem.
I am pretty sure the problem came from uneven coating at the (eastern) fab.
On even tones, these stripes look awful.
I returned it to the shop and got partially refunded.
I spent (lost) days on that emulsion, I made sensitometric studies etc ...
for nothing !

Maybe they improved the product, but my feeling is they didn't. It seems to
be true for most of the eastern materials (even camera films). These fabs
work with old structures and cannot offer a very constant product. I would
love to be wrong saying that.

On the other hand, other films do exist. For example, AGFA has a direct
duplicating halftone film called AVITONE. I will soon test it. These sheet
films are of maximum 10x10" unless you order a big quantity. Once tested I
will let you know.

For other halftone films, yo also have aviphot panchromatic films in rolls
of 10". They can be used as camera films. Their initial purpose is aerial
photography.

|I just received the latest Freestyle catalog, and on page 39
|is a blurb
|commanding: ' Attention platinum and palladium printers!
|Genius Film is
|the perfect replacement for Agfa's Gevatone N-31P' yada, yada, yada.
|
|At $10 per 16x20 sheet, it's not exactly cheap. Anybody out there used
|this stuff yet?
|
|Is this film really smarter than regular continuous tone copy film?
|
|Or more to the point, is it smarter than photoshop, scanner and the
|Burkholder book?
|
|Inquiring minds....
