Sandy, Much of the cost estimates that I see are based upon metals
salts and some components. Sure, the more you by the better the price.
Where you buy is also a consideration, for the paper, brushes, tape,...
The bottom line is " do you love what you do"... The cost is not so
much or a real part of why most of us are doing the things we do.
Right?
My last purchases were Pt @ 13.00/gram, Pd @ 10.50/g, I make my own
developer, and ferric which cuts cost a bunch. A purchase of 140.00
dollars worth of supplies to make ferric oxalate, produced nearly 2.7
liters, and I sold some of that so it truly was nearly free. I love
what I do... it it not so expensive as to stop me from doing it. Heck,
coated silver paper is almost 2.00 a sheet.
Have fun and love what you do.

Sandy,
Last time I ordered I think I got 25 grams of Pd salt and 10 of Pt
(because
you mix them at different strengths that's more like a 5 to 1 ratio of
final
solutions) which has lasted me a long time. I'm sure the price was
significantly lower than buying pre-mixed 25ml bottles. My cost estimate
is
a little higher than Clay and Kerik because I figured for a 20% platinum
print, and it looks like I'm using a bit more solution per square inch
on my
current favorites (Stonehenge and Lenox) than the papers they mention.
My
other favorite, Masa, would use nearly 20% less, and I've plenty of
successful 12x20's on it, but I'd hesitate, to say the least, to try
this
Japanese tissue at 20x24.---Carl
