Yes. A really good spring frame seems to be adequate for 8x10, but for
anything larger than that a vac frame makes a clearly visible difference in
the prints. That's assuming a handcoated process: two sheets of plate glass
make perfectly sharp silver prints from 12x20 negatives, but on thick, hand
coated, intentionally humid sheets of Pt/Pd paper, I don't think a spring
frame can be made that will really deal with negatives bigger than 8x10. And
even the 8x10's show a miniscule tweak of improvement in the vac
