It occurs to me also to mention that the only reason throwing water into
aqua regia came up at all was because dick said, as part of his rationale
for the heinous danger of making your own gold chloride, what if someone
panicked when they got a runaway reaction (which does not as far as I know
or as far as I know anyone knows occur with these chemicals) and threw
water on it. A suppose on top of an imagining. Though I'm still curious
about the facts (having learned meanwhile that not everything in my
schoolbooks, or even in my alt photo books, is still true, if it ever
was).
