So far, so good! I'm using the formaldehyde (40% in methanol) in the fume
cupboard, also doing the coating there. I have read the safety data sheet so
am suitably careful...I always wear gloves :) and a mask when necessary.
Interesting that most products that contain these substances don't carry the
same warnings! I'm using the smallest possible amount - just a drop and it
seems to work, in combination with the glycerine which is reducing streaks
and giving me a thinner layer. Perhaps I don't need two layers if I apply
carefully, certainly the emulsion has been too thick up till now. Btw, I
applied the emulsion to the BACK of the glass by mistake on one print, this
side was not as clean - the whole thing floated off in the fix bath.....I
have also found a couple of products that are designed to prepare glass for
painting - they may just be the answer to the substrate hassles - will let
you know.
