Philippe,
I can get up to a Dmax of about 1.5 with both kallitype and
palladium, without double coating.
Carbon has the potential to go much higher and I have actually made
some prints with Dmax of over 1.9, but that would only be on very
smooth papers. Most of my carbons drawing and water color papers
would have a maximum Dmax of 1.6 or slighlty less.
