RE: Dumb question about Van dyke toning

Hi Gerry, the reason of using citric acid is to totally eliminate -
maybe remaining and often yellow staining due to alkali wash water -
ferric compounds (unexposed sensitizer). Citric acid dissolves these
compounds. See Sandy King's article on Kallitype @ unblinkingeye.com to
read about clearing and longevity issues with Kallitype/Vandyke...
AFAIK, POP emulsion doesn't incorporate ferric compounds therefore a
citric acid "clearing bath" is probably not necessary.
