There's a very simple way to prove to yourself that this is nonsense.
Just mix some gum and dichromate, spread it on paper, let it dry, put
the paper in water without exposing it. Of course the gum will dissolve,
which pretty much "puts paid" (that's an expression of Judy's that I
borrowed, thanks) to this notion of the gum being insoluble when it's
first mixed with dichromate and needing light to make it soluble and
then insoluble again.
