How so? I have not a clue as to how the plates are manufactured and what
environmental issues are involved in the manufacturing process.

I do know most of them are made in Japan so that may be a plus; let them
suffer the environmental problems. Oh or maybe we are all on the same
planet. As for making the plate, the tiny amount of chrome used probably
does less damage to the environment than the UPS truck does delivering the
plates. And none if the chrome is properly reclaimed and disposed of.

One other thing, you seem to equate the two as being the same. A copper
gravure plate produces density graduated dots where a poly plate is only
halftone. The best poly prints look like good magazine pictures, a gravure
print is a thing to itself.

have you tried using photopolymer plates for photogravure? Much safer on the
environment!
